The alliance would help "accelerate the flow of private capital to African agriculture, take to scale new technologies and other innovations that can increase sustainable agricultural productivity, and reduce the risk borne by vulnerable economies and communities," the declaration read.

The G8 pledged to committed $22 billion toward food and nutritional security during the 2009 summit in L'Aquila, Italy.

The World Food Program, before the Camp David summit, praised members of the international community for keeping food security at the top of the agenda during a major food crisis in the Horn of Africa.

"But it is clear that much more needs to be done at every level," said the WFP in a statement. "Far-reaching partnerships, broader consultation in the formulation and implementation of country-led development processes, as well as long-term commitments, must be made and maintained."
