PERTH, Australia, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- U.S. energy explorer Apache Energy announced the opening of the first new domestic natural gas plant in Western Australia in more than 15 years.
Apache officials joined Australian Minister for State Development Colin Barnett for the opening of its Devil Creek gas plant in Western Australia. The plant is the third domestic natural gas processing hub in Western Australia and the first new facility of its kind built in more than 15 years.
"Devil Creek will enable us to increase our domestic gas sales to the Western Australian market where we already have an established profile," Thomas Maher, managing director of Apache Energy, said in a statement.
Apache said the facility can process up to 200 million cubic feet of natural gas and 1,000 barrels of condensate per day.
Apache officials said reserve basins in Western Australia hold vast untapped resources that will remain a focus of exploration activity "for many years."
