Norwegian gas field, Troll, closed Tuesday

KOPERVIK, Norway, March 4 (UPI) -- Norwegian energy company Gassco said Tuesday a compressor at its Troll field in the North Sea was shutdown, disrupting gas production.

Gassco said the compressor issue would idle operations briefly at the Troll field in the Norwegian waters of the North Sea. In reporting the outage on its website, Gassco provided no estimate of the volume of the disruption, but said the field should be back in service within the next 24 hours.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the nation's energy regulator, said the Troll field contains 49 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and production was around 1 trillion cubic feet last year.

NPD said gas from the field is transported through three different pipelines to a processing facility at Kollsnes, an island off the southern coast of Norway.

The regulator said two more gas compressors should be installed at the Troll field by next year.
