ANKARA, Turkey, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Gerard Mestrallat, chairman of the French energy company GDF Suez, said a preliminary cooperation deal with Ankara lays a good foundation in Turkey.
Mestrallat met in Ankara with Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz to sign a memorandum of understanding on future projects in Turkey.
"With our existing presence in Turkey and expertise across the energy sector, GDF Suez is well placed to deliver important energy infrastructure for the country," he said in a statement Monday.
The French energy company said it aims to expand its presence in the Turkish energy sector through cooperation with Electricity Generation Co., a Turkish utility, at the 4,400 megawatt Sinop nuclear facility and with its Japanese partners at the 1,320 megawatt Adana thermal power plant.
"We remain committed to investing in major energy projects in Turkey and supporting the Turkish government to ensure security of supply as the country's demand for energy grows," Mestrallat said.
The French company offered no specifics about its future plans in the Turkish power sector.
