The U.S. Energy Information Administration said in a country profile of Oman that it has been able to breathe new life into a declining oil sector. Oil production in 2012 was around 924,000 barrels per day.

Tethys, a Swedish energy company, owns a 30 percent stake in the two reserve areas alongside its Japanese and Omani counterparts.
