BRS has headquarters in Texas and AleAnna is based in Delaware.

AleAnna holds nine exploration permits in Italy in reserve areas encompassing more than of 800,000 acres.

All of the license areas under consideration have been surveyed using 3-D seismic technology to get a better understanding of the reserve potential, officials said.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration, the statistical arm of the Energy Department, said Italy produced approximately 304 billion cubic feet of natural gas last year. It holds the sixth-largest proven natural gas reserves in Europe.

BRS said its partners have been able to produce "billions of cubic feet" worth of natural gas in Italy.
