OSLO, Norway, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Norwegian energy company DNO International said Wednesday it set a record for daily production at its Tawke oil field in Iraq during the second quarter of 2013.
DNO has a majority stake in the Tawke field in the Kurdish region of Iraq alongside Turkish energy company Genel Energy and the Kurdistan Regional Government. DNO said it plans at least one more well in the region this year.
DNO said Wednesday its production from the second quarter of 2013 climbed by approximately 30 percent to 38,720 barrels of oil equivalent. It said it set a series of production milestones in the second quarter at the Tawke field, including a record daily production rate of 112,949 barrels and the highest rate for a single well with 25,052.
It didn't provide specific dates for the records.
"We continue to de-risk and deliver across our portfolio and most impressively in our operations in the Kurdistan region of Iraq," DNO Chairman Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani said in a statement.
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Counties said in its August market report Iraq as a whole produced approximately 2.8 million barrels of oil per day last month, a 1.7 percent decline from June.
The central and Kurdish governments are at odds over who controls what in the national oil sector.
