Nabucco West works to sync with SD2

VIENNA, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- The company behind the planned Nabucco West natural gas pipeline is working to coordinate its timeline with Azeri offshore developments, a source said.

BP is leading consortium working in the Shah Deniz 2 offshore gas field in Azerbaijan. Project leaders expect to make a final investment decision on the offshore development by October.

A source from Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbG said the group was working to lock in its developments for Nabucco West with those from the BP-led group, the region's Trend news service reports.

The parent company last week called on potential steel suppliers to apply for the pre-qualification phase for the planned construction of the 820-mile, 48-inch Nabucco West pipeline to carry Azeri gas from the Turkish border to Hungary.

Nabucco West is part of the Southern Corridor, a planned network of natural gas pipelines meant to break the Russian grip on the regional energy sector.

By June, the BP-led group is expected to make a decision between Nabucco West and the planned Trans-Adriatic Pipeline.
