Anadarko sees LNG future in Mozambique

HOUSTON, June 12 (UPI) -- Explorer Anadarko Petroleum Corp. said its latest discovery near Mozambique suggests there are substantial natural gas deposits offshore.

Anadarko announced its Atum exploration well off Mozambique encountered more than 300 net feet of natural gas pay. Preliminary data suggest the discovery is tied to another recent find, Golfinho, about 10 miles away.

Anadarko executives said they estimated its exploration area off Mozambique holds at least 30 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

"We plan to immediately commence a four-well appraisal program of this complex, which has the potential to underpin a large liquefied natural gas development," Senior Vice President for Worldwide Exploration Bob Daniels said in a statement.

Anadarko in November announced its Barquentine-3 appraisal well off the coast of Mozambique has at least 30 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in place, twice the size of the previous estimate.
