RWE finds promising North Sea development

ESSEN, Germany, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Though early estimates put offshore Norwegian reserves at more than 70 million square feet of oil equivalent, it's too early to make conclusions, RWE said.

German energy company RWE Dea said it was assessing natural resources available in the Norwegian waters of the North Sea.

Preliminary estimates put the size of recent Norwegian discoveries at more than 70 million square feet of oil equivalent, which follows what the company describes as a "major" gas discovery in the region in September.

"We've drilled two of our operated licenses this year and we've made two discoveries," said Hugo Sandal, a managing director at the company, in a statement. "We're very pleased about making another discovery that looks promising but it's too soon to draw any firm conclusions until an appraisal well has been drilled."

The group said the two wells drilled recently in the North Sea were promising developments for the area.

"We also believe there is further exploration potential in the license," added Sandal.
