LONDON, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- British Energy Minister Ed Miliband welcomed top officials from Norwegian energy giant StatoilHydro to discuss gas and wind technology in the region.
Helge Lund, the chief executive at StatoilHydro, met with Miliband in London to discuss issues pertaining to its business in Britain, the company said in a release.
Miliband welcomed the friendly relationship his country had with Norway and StatoilHydro, expressing his interest in the Sheringham Shoal wind farm in particular. Lund, for his part, emphasized the role his company played in the region.
"We are exporting large gas volumes to the United Kingdom, and we have important projects here both within upstream oil and gas and offshore wind," he said.
StatoilHydro said construction for the Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farm would begin in 2010. The farm consists of 88 wind turbines that will supply energy to roughly 220,000 homes.
Meanwhile, the company is in the process of evaluations of the Mariner and Bressay heavy oil fields.
To accommodate its growing activities in the United Kingdom, StatoilHydro announced it moved into new offices near Paddington Square.
"The opening of the new, larger office in London demonstrates our commitment to long-term business in the United Kingdom," said Lund.
