KARACHI, Pakistan, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Pakistan Refinery said Wednesday it will invest more than $182 million to upgrade its refinery in Korangi, near Karachi.

The upgrade of the refinery that produces 50,000 barrels of oil a day will allow the company to produce cleaner fuel and improve profitability.

The third-largest refinery in the country will be able to produce fuel that will meet exporting standards as well as for domestic consumption, the company said. Pakistan is planning to adopt European emission standards that limits sulfur in gas oil to 0.05 percent by 2008.
