NEW YORK, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Goldman Sachs philanthropic director Dina Powell will soon join the Trump administration as a White House adviser, people familiar with the matter reported.

Powell, 43, has been a partner at the investment firm since 2010, and is its global head of corporate engagement. She has worked closely with Ivanka Trump, President-elect Donald Trump's daughter, on policy proposals to economically empower women, previously published reports noted.

Prior to joining Goldman Sachs in 2007, Powell was White House personnel director during the presidency of George W. Bush, and later assistant secretary of state for educational and cultural affairs. Bloomberg News reported she was a donor to the 2016 presidential campaign of Jeb Bush.

Powell interned as a college student with former Sen. Kay Hutchinson, R-Texas, and was a congressional staff member when Vice-president elect Mike Pence was a member of the House of Representatives. She is close to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the New York Times reported.

The daughter of an Egyptian Army captain, Powell was born in Cairo, emigrated with her family when she was four years old and grew up in Texas. She speaks Arabic fluently.

Powell would be the latest Goldman Sachs executive to join the Trump administration, although Trump singled out the company during his presidential campaign as an example of Wall Street greed. Former Goldman Sachs partner Steve Mnuchin was nominated as Treasury secretary; former president Gary Cohn was named to the top White House economic position; banker Jim Donovan is expected to be named undersecretary of domestic finance, and senior counselor to the president Stephen Bannon was a Goldman Sachs strategist.
