NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Sony has introduced a "Signature Series" flagship electronics line which includes a $3,200 Walkman plated in gold.

Sony's revision of the Walkman -- which many music-lovers already consider to be of superior quality -- is targeting audiophiles, who, with high-end headphones, would be able to notice the slight sound quality improvements, The Verge reported.

The new Walkman has a gold-plated copper body, meant to reduce magnetic interference and contact resistance.

"Sony has continued its pursuit of the ultimate materials and structures for reproducing the best sound possible, taking an unconventional approach to designing the Signature Series," Sony said in a statement.

The gold-plated Walkman will be released alongside a standard version -- priced at $3,199.99 and $1,199.99, respectively.

The Signature Series line also includes stereo headphones, wireless noise-canceling stereo headphones and a headphone amp.
