WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- The restaurant industry has been named as the United States' most popular industry, followed closely by the computer industry, according to a recent poll.

A Gallup poll found that 66 percent of Americans rated the restaurant industry positively, while 7 percent viewed it negatively. The computer industry also received a 66 percent popular rating but 13 percent of people polled viewed it negatively.

"The restaurant and computer sectors have vied for the most well-reviewed U.S. industry in each of Gallup's annual measures of this question since 2001," Gallup said in a statement. "This year's +59 net-positive score for the restaurant industry is well above its average +51 since 2001, whereas the computer industry's +53 net-positive score is about average for that industry."

The poll, which has a 6 percent margin of error, was conducted from Aug.3-7 on a random sample of 1,032 adults aged 18 and over.

The grocery industry came in third among top-rated U.S. business sectors, followed by the farming and agriculture industry. The industries of accounting, travel, Internet, automobile, retail and real estate all ranked in the top 10 U.S. business sectors, in descending order -- which all have a better than 2-to-1 positive rating.

"The restaurant and computer sectors have vied for the most well-reviewed U.S. industry in each of Gallup's annual measures of this question since 2001," Gallup writes. "The bottom five industries are all reviewed more negatively than positively, with three -- the federal government, pharmaceuticals and healthcare -- receiving negative ratings from more than half of the public."

The legal field and the oil and gas industry were also among the bottom five of the worst-rated U.S. sectors. The pharmaceutical industry received its lowest rating in 16 years -- earning a total positive rating of 28 percent. The federal government received a positive rating of 28 percent, a neutral rating of 16 percent and a total negative rating of 55 percent, earning a net positive of -27 percent -- dead last among rated sectors.
