LOS ANGELES, June 8 (UPI) -- Samsung is backing up it's already popular Galaxy S7 smartphone with a more rough and ready new model, the S7 Active. The new smartphone, available June 10 through AT&T for $26.50 per month for 30 months, or $33.13 for 24 months. Either way, it's a total cost of around $795.

Samsung has upgraded its flagship Galaxy smartphone with a bigger and tougher version each of the last four years, and now added a massive battery. New metal sides and soft bumpers on the corners, make the phone more comfortable to hold as a camera than the regular S7.
The company isn't committing to the phone working inside the current Gear VR headset, but it's toughness means you won't have to buy a case and can drop it on or in just about anything.
The Active has all the high-end features its regular S7 counterpart has, including Quad HD display, fast quad-core processor, a microSD card slot for larger storage and a well-regarded 12-megapixel rear camera, but the Active gives away the elegant metal-and-glass design. The shatter-resistant screen, physical navigation buttons, a customizable Action Key, and tough, durable body is expected to keep Samsung in stiff competition with Apple for the foreseeable future.
