SHANGHAI, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The Walt Disney Co. and Chinese retail giant Alibaba have teamed up to introduce DisneyLife, a new Disney-themed streaming service for China.
The service will be accessed through a Mickey Mouse-shaped device that connects to TVs, similar to Google's Chromecast or Amazon's Fire TV. It will sell for $125.
Set for release on Dec. 28, the device includes a one-year subscription to DisneyLife, which features the studio's vast library of films, television shows, games, e-books, songs and even the ability to buy merchandise or tickets to Disneyland in Hong Kong or Disney's upcoming Shanghai resort when it opens in 2016.
"As we deliver on our goal to meet the needs of a consumers' daily life, DisneyLife, launched by Alibaba Digital Entertainment Business Unit together with Disney, will provide the only holistic and trusted family-friendly digital destination in China," Wei Ming, general manager of Alibaba's Digital Entertainment Business Unit, said in a statement.
"For nearly a century, Disney's focus on quality storytelling and innovation has delivered audiences around the world the best stories, shared moments and extraordinary experiences," said Luke Kang, managing director of Disney for China. "Disney and Alibaba share an ambition to exceed our audience's expectations. DisneyLife directly connects us to China's digital population and provides millions of kids and families the ability to explore and engage with Disney."
The entertainment giant launched DisneyLife in the U.K. in November.
