Beginning Dec. 22 through April 12 of 2016, the company will offer 16 one-week cruises with two nights in Havana, which will include activities organized by local travel firm Cubanacan.

Fly-cruise packages will be available to individuals from Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Brazil and Argentina. Bookings will also be available from the U.K. beginning July 9.

The MSC Opera ship is currently stationed at a Havana dry dock as part of a $220 million plan to upgrade four of the company's older ships.

The news follows an announcement by U.S.-based Carnival Corp., which will begin offering people-to-people cruises in 2016.

Currently, MSC Cruises does not sail from the United States.

Thomson Cruises and Saga Cruises are also moored in Cuba.
