MENLO PARK, Calif., June 3 (UPI) -- Instagram has added a suite of new photo editing tools to its photo sharing app, after the company realized that people went to other apps for such tools.
The new editing tools include sliders to control the intensity of nine new photo effects, giving users the power of other apps like Camera+ and Photoshop Express for Free. The update will also let users have better control over the brightness, contrast, saturation and warmth of their pictures.
"People come to Instagram today to post their photos but haven't come back to edit their photos" said Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom. Systrom adds that the new update will create "a nice level playing field for the Instagram community."
Instagram user shave so fear fallen into two major categories. The first are users who click casual pictures on the app and post them directly to Instagram. The second includes those who like to tinker with their photos and have had to use other third-party apps because of the lack of editing options provided by Instagram.
Systrom also said that users are looking for more advance photo tool and apps but that it such apps are either expensive or not that great, taking a jab at the Camera+ and Photoshop Express.
Prior to the update, Instagram only provided an array of filters and limited editing tools including straightening, borders and blurring.
Instagram version 6.0 will be available for download in the App Store and on Google Play, Ice Cream Sandwich and over.
