FRANKFURT, Germany, April 2 (UPI) -- German airline Lufthansa cancelled nearly 900 flights Wednesday, at the start of a three-day pilots' strike, and is expected to ground 3,000 additional flights.
The strike, which is possibly the largest walkout seen at the airline, will also be one of the biggest stoppages in recent years. Lufthansa's management and pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit have been negotiating changes to retirement benefits. The union announced the strike after talks came to a standstill over the weekend.
