STX, lacrosse products firm, recalls throat protector

WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Lacrosse products firm STX of Baltimore is recalling 4,000 throat shields due to edges that could potentially cut a wearer, regulators said.

The STX Shield protector could break when struck by a lacrosse ball. If that occurs, the edges of the protector would increase the risk of laceration, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

The protectors, a black plastic shield-shaped protector, has "STX" engraved on the surface. It has straps that attach it to a goalie's helmet.

They are primarily used by lacrosse goalies.

They were sold nationwide from September 2013 to February 2014 for about $25.

Consumers were advised to stop using the throat protectors and return them to STX for a full refund.

Consumers can call 888-789-7894 for information.
