NEW YORK, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- After losing a legal challenge to a wind farm offshore of his Scottish golf resort, Donald Trump announced Tuesday he is buying a five-star Irish resort.
Trump, in a statement from New York, said he plans to appeal the ruling in the Court of Session by Lord Raymond Doherty, the Scotsman reported. But he also suggested he will be paying more attention to his new acquisition, Doonbeg, and less to the Menie resort in Aberdeenshire.
"We will appeal this decision and in the meantime we will be focusing all of our investment and energy towards our new acquisition on the Atlantic Ocean in Ireland," Trump said.
Trump's Scottish resort was opposed by environmentalists and some local golf traditionalists, who feared it would overshadow the famed Old Course at St. Andrews.
"Not only can this important wind farm go ahead and help pave the way to a low-carbon future for Scotland, but it will give some hope to the communities whose rights Trump has trampled on, that the government and courts can stand up to the billionaire bully," Mary Church of Friends of the Earth Scotland said.
Trump told the Irish Times he has big plans for the Doonbeg resort and will spend more than the 15 million euros ($20 million) it took to acquire the resort on making improvements. The resort was in bankruptcy when Trump bought it.
"We're bringing the Trump factor to Ireland," Trump said.
