Private sector gains 215,000 jobs

ROSELAND, N.J., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- U.S. private-sector employment rose by 215,000 in November, significantly more than expected, Automatic Data Processing said Wednesday.

Economists predicted a gain of 173,000 jobs in the month. In addition, ADP said that October's increase in U.S. jobs was 184,000, a more optimistic estimate from last month, when ADP announced 130,000 new private-sector jobs in October.

ADP said firms with fewer than 50 employees added 102,000 jobs in November, a sharp jump from 37,000 jobs added by small companies in October.

Large companies -- those with at least 500 on the payroll -- added 65,000 new jobs, while mid-sized firms gained 48,000 jobs in the month, ADP said.

ADP said manufacturing added 18,000 jobs in November, while financial firms added 5,000, replacing the 5,000 jobs the sector lost in October.

Construction companies added 18,000 jobs in the month, ADP said.
