McDonald's to put 20 million books in Happy Meals

OAK BROOK, Ill., Oct. 12 (UPI) -- U.S. fast-food chain McDonald's said 20 million Happy Meals in November will be served with a free book that promotes exercise and eating right.

The gift books will be packed into Happy Meals from Nov. 1-14, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

McDonald's has tried the same idea in England and received an "overwhelmingly positive" response from parents, the Times said, quoting McDonald's officials.

Four titles will be offered, including "The Goat Who Ate Everything," about a goat that conquers some bad eating habits and "Deana's Big Dreams," about a diminutive dinosaur that learns to eat right and grows appropriately.

The books will also be available in an electronic format. McDonald's said it is working with DK Publishing to expand its literary offerings, which will be made available through the company's McPlay Happy Meal software program.
