Black & Decker Spacemaker Coffeemaker recalled

WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. regulators said that Applica Consumer Products is recalling about 641 coffee makers, called Spacemakers, due to problems with coffee pot handles.

The handles can break, possibly leading to a laceration or a burn, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a Thursday release.

The coffee makers are called Spacemaker, because they can be mounted under a cabinet. They are sold as 12-cup coffee makers and they have "BLACK & DECKER SPACEMAKER" printed on the top right-hand corner of the appliance.

The company has received more than 1,600 reports of handles breaking, the commission said. The current recall is a follow up on a June 2012 recall, when 159,000 Spacemakers were recalled.

Consumers were advised to stop using the appliances, which were made in China and sold in True Value Hardware Stores for between $50 and $80 from July 2008 through June 2013.

Consumer can call 866-708-7846 for information.
