BEAVERTON, Ore., June 15 (UPI) -- Athletic shoe and apparel maker Nike has snatched up two properties with 13 buildings in Beaverton, Ore., next to its world headquarters.

Property records show Nike bought the property May 30, picking up nearly 600,000 square fee of office space for $84.5 million, the Portland Business Journal reported Friday.

The two office parks are known as Woodside I and Woodside II. "These real estate investments are designed to help support Nike's growth," Nike spokeswoman Mary Remuzzi, in an email top the Journal.

The company also is planning to start building two new office buildings this year that will total more than 500,000 square feet of space to its campus

The (Portland) Oregonian reported Nike has leased space in the Woodside complex for years to accommodate workforce overflow from its 213-acre campus. As of April, Nike had nearly 2,800 employees working within Beaverton city limits.

Nike's headquarters campus is located outside Beaverton in unincorporated Washington County.
