Surly bicycle front forks recalled

WASHINGTON, May 8 (UPI) -- Bloomington, Minn., importer Surly Bikes is recalling about 975 front bicycle forks due to a potential for the forks to bend, safety regulators said.

The bike forks were imported from Taiwan and sold nationwide from May 2012 through February 2013 for abut $100 individually or for $1,750 when sold as a component on a Surly Pugsley bicycle.

The company has received one report of a bicycle fork bending above the disc brake mount, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The recall involves Surly Pugsley 100mm and 135mm bicycle forks. "Surly" is printed on both legs of the fork. and on the frames of the bicycles in which the forks were sold as a component.

The 100mm forks are black and have triple water bottle mounts on each side. They also have date code 2012 03 20 stamped on the steerer tube.

The 135mm forks are black, yellow or red. They are stamped with date code 2012 06 19.

Consumers were advised to stop using the bicycles and contact Surly for a free inspection and replacement or a full refund.
