Chrysler to recall 4,783 cars in China

BEIJING, May 4 (UPI) -- U.S. automaker Chrysler is preparing to recall 4,783 Compass and Patriot model cars in China due to fuel tank problems, a Chinese government agency said.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said the recall involves cars made between Oct. 18, 2011, and May 7, 2012.

The agency said the fuel tanks fail to allow for the flow of fuel in cases of high temperatures, high altitude and due to internal fuel vapor pressure, China's official Xinhua News Agency reported Saturday.

The problem involves the gas tank siphon, which the company said it would replace free of charge starting in July, Xinhua said.
