Triple Eight bicycle helmets recalled

WASHINGTON, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of 30,400 Triple Eight Distribution Inc., bicycle helmets due to danger of a head injury.

The helmets, imported from China by Triple Eight of Port Washington, N.Y., were sold nationwide from August 2006 through last November for about $40.

The commission determined through product testing the helmets do not comply with federal standards for impact resistance.

The recall involves multi-purpose helmets primarily sold as bicycle helmets. The "Little Tricky" helmets were sold in black, white, pink and green and have "Little Tricky" painted on the sides. Triple Eight S/M EPS Liner helmets were sold in black, white, bone, blue and army green. Sector 9 S/M EPS Liner helmets were sold in gray, white, black, blue and green.

Consumers were advised to stop using the helmets and contact Triple Eight for a full refund.
