RIM puts Playbook tablet on $299 one-price sale

TORONTO, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Canadian electronics firm Research in Motion said it would sell its PlayBook tablet for $299 through Feb. 4, regardless of what model the consumer chooses.

The one-price sale means discounts on the device will range from $200 for the 16 gigabyte version to $400 for the 64-gigabyte version.

RIM said it would go with one price for any model of the PlayBook, which has had disappointing sales since its launch in April, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

Neither the 3G nor 4G versions have been picked up by any wireless carriers, which has contributed to the disappointing sales, the Times reported.
