WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Liebherr 30-inch-wide, refrigerators with doors that can detach unexpectedly.

The recall involves about 8,000 30-inch wide, bottom freezer refrigerators sold nationwide from February 2004 through July 2009. The sold for between $3,500 and $3,800.

Units with model numbers CS 1601, CS 1640, and CS 1650 are being recalled. The firm has received 16 additional reports of doors detaching on the freestanding refrigerators.

Two of the incidents included reports of minor injuries.

The refrigerators, imported from Austria by Liebherr-Canada Ltd. of Ontario, Canada, have a stainless steel finish with "Liebherr" stamped on the upper center of the refrigerator door and the top interior control panel.

Consumers were advised to contact Liebherr to schedule a free in-home repair.

Consumers were also advised to check their refrigerator to see whether the door hinge pin has become loose. A loose pin will reveal itself with a popped up stance in the hinge pin at the top.
