KEDS girls' shoes recalled

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of KEDS "Know It All" girls' shoes due to sharp decorative stars attached to the shoe.

The ornamental stars on the heel of the shoe could come lose, posing a safety hazard for children, the commission said.


About 45,000 pairs of "Know It All" shoes were imported from China and sold nationwide from June 2011 through October 2011 for about $23.

The firm has received 27 reports of various injuries resulting from metal stars that loosened from the heel of the shoe.

The recall involves KEDS girls' rubber soled shoes, which are black and pink with white trim and a series of ornamental silver stars.

"KEDS" appears on the tongue and heel of the shoe. They were sold in girls' sizes 12 to 5.
