Apple, California, set Jobs memorials Sunday

CUPERTINO, Calif., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- The company Steve Jobs founded and the state of California said they will honor the technology icon Sunday, which was declared "Steve Jobs Day."

California Gov. Jerry Brown declared the state-wide honor Friday, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The governor is expected to be among the luminaries who will gather on the same day at Stanford University for a memorial sponsored by Apple Inc., the computer company Jobs began with a high school friend, Steve Wozniak, in the garage at Jobs' parents' house in Cupertino, Calif., in 1976.

Jobs named the company after the Beatles' record label. When he died Oct. 5, Apple was the largest company in the world, worth nearly four times more than Disney and Time Warner combined, the Reporter said.

The Wall Street Journal reported the memorial at Stanford is an invitation-only event. The company announced previously that it would set aside Oct. 19 as a day for the company's employees to celebrate and honor Jobs' life.
