Russian oil pipeline closed after quake

MOSCOW, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- A 5.9-magnitude earthquake in far eastern Russia resulted in suspension of oil supplied to China through the ESPO pipeline, a company official said.

"Oil supplies to China are suspended. Inspection of the damaged equipment is required. The energy supply has been damaged by the earthquake," Ignor Dyomin said in a report from RIA Novosti.

The pipeline that runs through the Amur region of Russia carries 300,000 barrels of oil per day to China.

Russian pipeline company Transneft and oil giant Rosneft signed a $22 billion deal in January to supply oil to China.
