PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- General Motors provided a glimpse in California of the new Cadillac Ciel -- a car it says combines luxury and hybrid technology.
The unveiling in Pebble Peach revealed a convertible with sleek lines and "French style" doors that open in opposite directions, The Detroit Free Press reported Friday.
The passenger doors swing back, the front doors swing forward, allowing the convertible to look wide open -- no pillar between the doors.
"Large, expressive luxury is innate to Cadillac and the Ciel [pronounced see-el] recalls that heritage while suggesting where the brand can go in the future," said Clay Dean, design director for the Ciel, which means "sky" in French.
The Ciel, which seats four, features a 3.6-liter direct-injection V6 engine and a lithium-ion battery.
GM has plans for a larger XTS Cadillac sedan and a compact sedan in 2012. In 2013, GM will bring out the Cadillac ELR, which will use the same power technology as the Chevrolet Volt.
