ROSELAND, N.J., July 7 (UPI) -- Payroll company Automatic Data Processing said Wednesday the private sector resumed a stronger pace of hiring in June.
Counting private sector jobs, the United States added 157,000 jobs May to June on a seasonally adjusted basis, a sharp improvement from the disappointing 38,000 jobs added April to May.
May looks like a glitch. In April, the economy added 177,000 private sector jobs.
ADP said small businesses added 88,000 jobs, while businesses with 50 to 499 employees added 59,000. Larger firms, those with 500 or more workers, added 10,000 jobs.
That pattern has held through the recovery, showing major corporations remain reluctant to hire.
Manufacturing in June added 24,000 private sector jobs.
Gary Butler, chief executive officer at ADP said June showed "a significant improvement" over May, "particularly in light of last quarter's disappointing 1.9 percent gross domestic product growth."
"Given such strong employment results despite poor GDP, I am optimistic we will see improving job growth in the second half of the year," he said.
