BOSTON, May 21 (UPI) -- A consumer group in Boston plans to ask McDonald's Corp. to retire its long-term mascot Ronald McDonald because he promotes unhealthy diets for children.

The group, Corporate Accountability International, plans to ask the company to retire the red-headed clown at the company's next annual shareholder meeting, The Boston Globe reported Saturday.

But McDonald's Chief Executive Officer Jim Skinner said the campaign to force Ronald McDonald to retire was backfiring, as many were writing the company supporting the company's "right to choose," Skinner said.
