DETROIT, March 16 (UPI) -- Automaker Chrysler is suing T-shirt sellers Pure Detroit for use of the "Imported from Detroit" tag line first used in a Super Bowl ad, court papers show.

The line was an instant hit and Chrysler has already filed for a trademark on it for use on clothing. Chrysler also sells clothing with "Imported from Detroit" printed on it through its online brand store, The Detroit News reported Wednesday.

Court papers filed by the automaker say Pure Detroit, "copied Chrysler's tag line exactly and used it on some of the very goods for which Chrysler had filed a trademark application, clothing."

Pure Detroit also advertises themselves as "exclusive" retailers for clothing with the tag line and promotes the shirts as bearing "the tag line that is making headlines across America," court documents say.

Pure Detroit could not be reached for comment, the newspaper said.
