WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Jackson, Tenn., firm DeVilbiss Air Power Co. is recalling 460,000 air compressors due to a fire hazard, a federal watchdog agency said.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the air compressors sold under Craftsman, Delta Shopmaster, DeVilbiss, Husky and Porter-Cable brand names can overheat, posing a fire hazard.
The Craftsman-brand compressors were sold at Sears stores from September 2000 through December 2005 for about $215. All other brands were sold from January 2003 through December 2004 for between $200 and $300.
A variety of models are involved in the recall. The Craftsman and were sold as red 15-gallon models. The Porter-Cable compressors were sold in red 4-gallon and 6-gallon models. Delta Shopmaster sold gray 12-gallon models. DeVilbiss models are blue 3-gallon compressors. Husky sold red 25-gallon models, the commission said.
Consumers were advised to stop using the compressors and contact DeVilbiss or Sears for a free inspection and repair.
