Steelcase recalls Cachet swivel chairs

WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Steelcase Inc. of Grand Rapids, Mich., is recalling about 165,000 Cachet swivel chairs due to seat supports that can crack, a federal agency said.

The chairs present a fall hazard that risks a back injury, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The Steelcase Cachet chairs with model number 487 were sold nationwide at Healthy Back Store, CSN, Home Office Solutions, Office & Co., and Fam Flax outlets from May 2002 through November 2009 for up to $600.

The chairs have plastic slotted seats and back, although some were sold with cushions, the commission said.

Consumers were advised to inspect their seat supports for cracks as outlined at the company's Web site: http://recall.steelcase.com.

If cracks are found, consumers were advised to stop using the chairs and contact Steelcase. If no cracks are identified, consumers were still urged to contact the company for instructions on a replacement of the chair's support system.

Consumers can call 800-391-7194 for information.
