NEW YORK, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Real estate developer Donald Trump said he is waiting for a green light from New York City to reopen Tavern on the Green.
One of the premier restaurant locations in the country, the famed Central Park landmark folded in December 2009.
Trump said he can make the place as good as ever, even restoring the Crystal Room, which the city tore down last summer, The New York Post reported Thursday.
Trump said, "I could have it built and operating in a year," including spending $20 million on restoration.
Trump also said he had negotiated a deal with the union that represents the Tavern's former employees.
He even said the restaurant would keep its famous name. "I don't think every place needs to be called Trump," he told the Post.
A spokesman for Mayor Michael Bloomberg said, "The city is not ready to announce any future plans for Tavern on the Green and has not had any discussions with possible restaurant operators."
