TEL AVIV, Israel, April 15 (UPI) -- Travelers taking an Apple iPad tablet computer to Israel can expect to have it confiscated at the border, Israeli authorities said.
Israel's Communication Ministry said the recently released tablet computer was not compatible with Israeli wireless technology standards, Haaretz reported Thursday.
"The broadcast levels of the device prevent approving its use in Israel," officials said, explaining that Israel's standards are "are similar to European standards, which are different from American standards, which permit broadcasting at lower power."
Reportedly, one Israeli had his iPad confiscated by customs on Wednesday and was told he could apply for its return. In the meantime, customs would keep the device in a warehouse and charge the owner for storage, the newspaper said.
