Review: Nexus One launch 'disappointing'

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. Internet firm Google's attempt to break into the smartphone market with the Nexus One has been a resounding dud, a PC World reviewer says.

Even with the advertising power of Google behind it, the company sold 20,000 mobile phones in its first week, far fewer than Motorola's Droid or T-Mobile's MyTouch3G managed in their debuts, PC World reported Wednesday.

In contrast, the 1.6 million Apple iPhone units flew off the shelves in its inaugural week, the magazine said.

In their opening week of sales, more than 240,000 Droids and about 60,000 MyTouch 3G were sold, the magazine said.

Besides complaints about "connectivity," Google "chose to hitch its wagon to T-Mobile … . What is T-Mobile's network claim to fame? Smallest?" reviewer Tony Bradley wrote.

The bottom line: "I think Google would be lying if it didn't admit that 20,000 is a disappointing start," he wrote.
