DETROIT, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- The United Auto Workers nominating team in Detroit said it unanimously selected Bob King to replace retiring UAW President Ron Gettelfinger.

The nominations made Wednesday include the union's Chicago director Dennis Williams, regional director Joe Ashton and fund-raising director Cindy Estrada to serve as top union leaders. Williams was also nominated to replace retiring Elizabeth Bunn as secretary-treasurer, The Detroit News reported Thursday.

Vice president Cal Rapson will also retire, while vice presidents Jimmy Settles and General Holiefield have been nominated to serve another term.

The nominations are expected to be ratified at the union's convention in June. At that point, "we will collectively … put together a plan and strategy … based on the great work that Ron has done," King said.

Gettelfinger was effusive in his praise of King, currently a UAW vice president.

"He's the best guy on the board. The board got behind him and said 'Bob! Bob! Bob!' Gettelfinger said.
