DETROIT, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Recovering U.S. automaker General Motors Co. has "no plans" for additional layoffs, President of GM North America Mark Reuss said.
"We have no plans for that right now," said Reuss speaking to reporters in Detroit on his third full day at his new job, The Detroit News reported Tuesday.
The statements is an about face from former Chief Executive Officer Fritz Henderson's statements in November that GM needed to cut as many as 7,000 workers already furloughed.
GM cut 13,000 hourly workers when it emerged from bankruptcy earlier this year.
But Reuss said, "we are going to be focused on generating revenue, and we are not going to save our way into any kind of successful activity doing that."
