iTune store to sell DVDs on day of release

CUPERTINO, Calif., May 2 (UPI) -- U.S. high-tech giant Apple will begin selling DVDs online on the day of their release via its iTunes applications, the company announced.

The movies, which were previously held back from consumers for several weeks, will be available on Apple's online store iTunes and retail for $14.99, the company said in a news release.

"We're thrilled to bring iTunes Store customers new films for purchase day-and-date with the DVD release," said Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of iTunes. "We think movie fans will love being able to buy their favorites from major and independent studios."

The policy will start with "American Gangster" and "Juno" this week.
