TORONTO, April 8 (UPI) -- Sony Canada announced in Toronto Tuesday a new program to accept all of its products back for recycling at stores and depots across the country.
A statement said the company is opening 25 non-retail collection depots in 22 cities in seven provinces beginning next Monday that will accept any "end-of-life" Sony items.
Handheld Sony items will be accepted at any of the 79 Sony Style retail stores in Canada.
The company said consumers can also mail back items for recycling at their own expense.
"Sony Canada's goal is to divert all Sony products from the landfill," said Doug Wilson, resident and chief operating officer of Sony Canada Ltd.
The products will be dismantled and recycled in partnership with Global Electric Electronic Processing Inc., the release said.
Details and locations of depots can be seen online at www.sony.ca/environment.
