ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- A jury in Orlando, Fla., awarded a former Westgate Resorts Inc. spa director $5.4 million in a sexual harassment suit.
Dawn Georgette Myers of Orlando claimed that Westgate Resorts owner David Siegel, reportedly worth $750 million, repeatedly made unwanted sexual advances, including kissing her during a dance at a company party and exposing himself to her after spa treatments that she gave him.
Myers claimed Siegel told a boyfriend of hers that he would pay her $1 million to have sex with him. But, the boyfriend, Rick Pierce, denied on the stand that Siegel made the statement.
The lawsuit was initiated in 2004 after Siegel sued Myers for $35,000 to recoup construction costs for renovations made to Myers' condo.
Siegel lost that case. Myers then sued Siegel in discrimination suit that was dismissed in 2006. That suit was revived last year, however, as a hostile work environment suit, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Siegel, 71, claimed he had a romance with Myers in 1996-97, while he was separated from his first wife.
His lawyers will appeal the judgment. "I guess it's because I'm wealthy … and the jury wants to share the wealth," Siegel said.
