US Air CEO gets jail for drunken driving

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- US Airways Chief Executive Officer Doug Parker was sentenced to a day in jail Tuesday for driving while intoxicated, the Arizona airline said.

Parker "accepted full and total responsibility for his recent DUI charge by entering a guilty plea to this charge (against the advice of his attorney)," US Airways said in a note to employees that it later sent to United Press International.

Parker was fined $1,646.25, ordered to spend 24 hours in jail March 15 and instructed to receive alcohol screening at an addiction-rehabilitation center, the Scottsdale, Ariz., court clerk's office said.

His speeding charge was dismissed.

Parker was pulled over at 11:30 p.m. Jan. 31 for driving 65 mph in a 45 mph zone after leaving a party at a Scottsdale golf tournament. A blood test showed Parker's blood-alcohol level was 0.096 percent, above the 0.08 percent legal limit.

The incident occurred the night US Airways dropped its hostile Delta Air Lines bid.

Parker appeared in court Tuesday instead of Wednesday to accommodate his lawyer's schedule, the airline said.
