DETROIT, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Ford Motor Co. is publicly questioning the claim by General Motors Corp. that Chevy was the top-selling U.S. brand in 2005.
Registration data from R.L. Polk & Co., a Southfield, Mich.-based auto research firm, shows more Fords than Chevys were registered last year, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday.

As a result of Polk's data, Ford says it plans to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, GM is standing by its claim that Chevrolet is the favorite car of U.S. residents, and Ford was careful to say it is not accusing its rival of deception.
